Designer Spotlight: Leslie Hutchison Interiors

Updated: Jun 5, 2019

This month instead of highlighting one specific job we are going to be doing something a little different. Instead we are going to be featuring a profile on one of the designers we have collaborated with over the years. That designer is Leslie Hutchison, owner of Leslie Hutchison Interiors.

Growing up in Joliet, Leslie was exposed to the interior design industry earlier on by her mother, who was also an interior designer.

She said, “I grew up helping her select fabrics, wallcoverings, furniture, lighting, tile… You name it! I credit my mom for giving me an eye for design and instilling the tools I still use today.”

After completing high school, Leslie went on to earn her B.A. from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. She came back to the Chicagoland area and worked in hospital pharmaceutical sales and staffing for a time. Eventually, she found her way back to interior design, establishing Leslie Hutchison Interiors back in 2009.

When meeting with a client for the first time, Leslie likes to reference pictures from magazines and online sources to get a better grasp on what her clients like. She explained that often clients have a difficult time specifying exactly what their style is, so the pictures give them a great starting platform. Often, clients end up merging different styles to create their final look.

“I value my clients’ positive reactions when they see their project taking shape and how excited they are to see their homes being transformed from ideas to reality,” Leslie stated.

Having been in the business for ten years, Leslie has worked on a variety of projects. She enjoys working with a clean slate such as a new home or completely redoing a kitchen or a bathroom. She also enjoys starting new when working with living rooms, dining rooms, and bedrooms.

She added, “I absolutely love selecting lighting and artwork!”

Leslie became connected with Fears Construction after a mutual friend suggested she reach out to owner Tim Fears. Since that time, Fears Construction has worked on numerous projects with Leslie. They have ranged from entire bathroom and kitchen remodels to smaller jobs like hanging wallpaper or chandeliers.

When asked what advice she would give to homeowners, Leslie said, “Work with an interior designer to manage the many details and decisions you will be making. Designers expose you to new ideas and create layered, well thought-out spaces you love.” She followed up by adding, “Invest in quality pieces of upholstered furniture that are well made and may cost a little more. They are worth it! You can sprinkle less expensive accent furniture in the mix.”

Leslie Hutchison Interiors covers all of Chicago and the suburbs. She can be found online at https://lesliehutchisoninteriors.net/, on Instagram (@LeslieHutchisonInteriors) and on Houzz (she’s listed as Leslie Hutchison Interiors).
